SA-330L Puma walkaround |
| I
photographed this Portuguese Air Force SA-330L Puma, serial number 19512, at
Sintra (Base Aérea 1) in July 2000. This helo was received by the PAF in 1970, originally as a SA-330C. It was later converted by OGMA to the SA-330L standard, with nose mounted Hercules search radar and flotation devices. The depicted configuration was that of a search and rescue aircraft. The seriously overworked Puma is due to be replaced by the Westland Merlin starting in 2004. By that time this particular airframe would have flown intensively for 35 years. The pictures were taken with a Minolta Dinax 700si, with a 35-200mm zoom lens and with Kodak Ektar 100 film. They were later scanned in an HP Scanjet 4C at 150dpi. This page was last updated on August 2002.
